“...looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”
Two hundred nineteen years ago, William Clark and Meriweather Lewis set off on their transcontinental journey to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. They possessed a firmness and perseverance of purpose, yet many of their maps were in error, or not available for the region they explored. But one of the many reasons that they were successful was that they relied on a compass. There is only one north!
As people of God living in the world, we often find ourselves in uncharted territory as well: a phone call from a family member telling us of an illness, a notice from our employer that the company we work for is downsizing, a child moving from home to go to school. We all have a race to run, and often we don’t understand where it is heading. But we do have a compass! We are called to look to Jesus. He is the one who not only sets us on the right direction, but who also takes us there himself!
“And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that where I am you will be also.” - John 14:3
